Great application!
I was able to load into PoiPoi all my custom POIs that I use in my GPS (Garmin nuvi) device. Resulting in a very nice way to visualize all these POIs. Thank You!
Here are some comments and suggestions for further improvement:
1. The phone integration for Canada does not work properly. PoiPoi seems to be inserting a plus sign (+) in front of the number, which prevents dialling from working properly. For example, a Toronto 10 digits number, like (416)123-4567 is dialled as “+41 (612) 345 67” and does not go thru. I was able to work around this by prefixing my numbes with a “1″, but this sometimes force long distance charges without warning, and the “1″ is normally not reqiured for dialing local calls. I suspect the issue is due to the presence of the “+” inserted at the beginning of the number.
2.It would be great to be able to search in the contents of a particular PoiPoi file, rather than just on the name of the file. For Example: In a file full of Restaurant names, I would like to be able to search for a particular entry name. In other words, having a Filter when looking at the contents of a particular Poi file. Scrolling thru a list of files is not a big issue, since in my case I have less than twenty, but entries could be in the hundredths, so search rather than scrolling would be more convenient.
3.Certain characters in the name of an entry seems to prevent Google maps from using that entry, For Example: The presence of “&” in “John & Jane”, or “(”, “)”, “” seems to create a problem when attempting to link to the Google maps app, so as a workaround I replace the “()”, with “{}” and it works, but PoiPoi could also take care of it.
4. Some PoiPoi labels are still in Italian, a very minor issue. Labels in Italian are in the Transfer page (Trasferimento, and Chiudi button)
5.Transfer of files for some of the recommended applications (eg. iPhone Explorer) did not work, when this application connected with the USB cable, I was able to see files for other applications, but not the files for PoiPoi. The only way I was able to send files to PoiPoi was wirelessly (WiFi) using ftp from the PC to the iPhone. Not a big issue, since the wireless ftp worked very well.
6.Icon bitmaps weren’t recognized when the extension was in uppercase (.BMP, instead of .bmp). Again, a very minor issue, but it had me wondering for a bit why it wasn’t taking them.
Thank you again,
Luis
